Juniper vGW perfomance

vgw performance graph

The vGW Series has been architected for the highest performance and scalability. This is something that’s afforded the solution by virtue of the Hypervisor-based approach.

The graphic here is depicting the impact, or lack thereof, that the vGW has in the performance environment of a VM host. Here we see an ESX, which is the VMware product for a VM host, and it’s unsecured. Its capacity, with no security in place, is a maximum of 20 VMs. When we introduce the vGW there is no impact on VMware host capacity. Twenty VMs are still supported and the impact on CPU is only about three percent. Competitors, who use a method called “slow path” for packet processing, have a significant impact on VM host capacity. With the vGW our customers will achieve wireline throughput for stateful firewalling for traffic bound to and from VMs and there’ll be no impact to the VM host capacity.
